Its been a while since we have blogged about the BPA Body shop VADZilla GTR build, as Ben has been extremely busy with his work load, so his personal project got side line, unfortunately it happens, we have had exactly the same problem this year with our own Z4 GT3 V8 project, customers cars and work take preference over personal builds, It’s just the nature of the business, but we are happy to report Ben has found some spare time and put a good few days into getting the car finish, well certainly when it comes to the paint.

Its been a wish to see this conversion finished in white, we must admit we were hoping to see the hood painted white too, but with a carbon hood it’s a difficult choice for some, personally we aren’t the exposed carbon fans, its still carbon under the paint and exposed carbon has been done to death, but Bens choice, and one we respect.

One area which will be a little hit and miss is the black stripe through the rear panel, from light to light, personally we like it, but there has been a bit of mixed reaction to the pictures we have shared on our social network, but we applaud Ben for building the car how he wants it to look.

This is one car we are looking forward to seeing in all its glory when winter has been and gone.

The aero kit is available from stock in either FRP or Carbon fibre, with a huge list of options, email us for more details on our wide body GTR programme. enquiries@vaddesign.com

We have some new BMW aero Products that that we are adding to our website, they aren’t new to the aero world, but they are worth sharing and most definitely worth putting on the website.

We have seen the BMW E86 (Z4) and E46 in M3 form making a bit of noise lately, especially on the styling, both great platforms and both tune and style up exceedingly well, and there are so many styling and aero bits available for both models, but if you know anything about us at VAD you will know that we love a wide body, in all forms and all marquees, and the wider the better, which brings us to our styling packs we are offering for these two models.

First up is the e46 chassis, we love this shape, especially in M3 form, it’s a looker in standard form, so to enhance is a tough one, but adding the GTR wide body is a step in the right direction, this conversion is super wider and super aggressive, and we adore it, with its vented front fenders, and aggressive front bonnet ( hood) it screams racer, and those fat rear arch extensions that flow into the rear vented bumper, what's not to like, it’s pretty special looking conversion, especially when you add the right looking set of wheels, in the right set up with 10” front wheels and 12” rear wheels in either 18” 19” or 20” sizing, so if you have already have the M3 model, you have the brutish good looks to match the performance, so the best of both worlds, although this aero pack will fit any E46 model across the engine range.

Next up we have the wide body aero pack for the Z4 E86 chassis, the awesome GTR, this kit is an absolute monster, the original batman looking car, small, wide and vents everywhere, it really is a wild looking aero kit, but wild in the best possible way, just look at it, aggressive from every viewing point, it really isn’t a conversion for the faint hearted, a must if you have the car and want to get noticed.

With this aero upgrade, you get all of the usual parts:

Front bumper, front under floor splitter, front vented fenders, side skirts, rear vented fenders, rear bumper, rear diffuser with the rear wing an optional extra.

Wheel choice is huge, with 10” front wheels and 12 to 13” rear wheels being needed to fill the acres of wide body goodness, we also have suspension & exhaust options for both vehicles, can be supplied only or fitted and painted, get in touch for more details on these BMW road monsters, if we wasnt already committed to building our V8 E89 Z4 GT3, we would most definitely be building the E86, such an incredible looking conversion, maybe one for a VAD build in the future.

Last week we had a trip down to the man cave called Dynotorque, we can’t begin to explain how much we love visiting Craig Taylor and his set up, every time we have been he has built something new, the man is a genius, and we mean genius, give him a donor vehicle, tell him what you want, along with a pot full of cash and the man will make it happen, you drive in with one machine, and drive out with another, and everything is done in-house, I think every petrol head will know all about the Driftworks DW86 V8 drift machine, and if you don't, you must of been living under a rock, well craig used his magic with the engine install side of the build, and that is the added bonus of a visit to Dynotorque, is he is right next door to the guys at Driftworks, so you get a double whammy, it’s a day out for any petrol head.

The Awesome DW86 V8 Drift car

Before we tell you what our visit was about, let’s tell you about the two cars he has just finished, a Nissan 350Z, as you can see from the attached pictures, it’s an incredible LS3 install, the other a Porsche 997 C4S, which has now been added to the huge list of converted LSV8 powered conversions, Angus the owner of the Porsche actually purchased the 997 with a blown engine, and as Craig had previously built him a LS3 TVR T350 V8 with some serious power, his lust for another LSV8 engine was always going to happen, and the fact it’s the first every 997 to house the LS3 with a Turbo, we can understand the appeal, and let’s face it the V8 noise is soooo addictive.

So why were VAD at Dynotorque, our main point was to finalise the ASPECT GT BMW Z4 that we have been planning for a while now, it actually got to the point of even us thinking this build would never be completed, as we seem to of hit a few technical issues along the way.

The main problem area has been the suspension, we do not want to air bag this car, we know bags are a huge craze around the world, but for us, it has to be a static ride, all of our builds will be, and this build in particular is a priority, plus don’t want to do what the last couple of road going Z4 builds we have seen being done, which is altering the arches to sit lower to the top of the tyre, the kit will remain as BMW Motorsport built it, modifying this beauty of a kit is a definite no go.

With Craig’s talent for making things go fast, I'm happy to report, he makes them stop and handle to, brakes we will use the big red stoppers from AP Racing, with as Craig puts it, a generous sized discs, with a custom coilover setup also on the cards, we are pleased to report that headache has been sorted.

Now for the final piece of the jigsaw, and what engine is used in this build, with a huge choice, from the S65, which will be the purist choice (but it certainly isn’t our first choice) right down to the LS3, LS3 Turbo, LS7, LS9, or how about the S85 V10, all will be revealed in the coming months, but were happy its all booked in and we are ready to start building.
