A few months back we did a post about a build a friend of ours was doing on his 996, at the time we had some fantastic feedback on the look that Dom was creating, albeit the front end has come in for some subtle changes here and there since our last discussion and we must say the final rendition of Dom’s vision is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye, we personally love the 996, but we know that it’s like Marmite you either love it or you don’t, there is no sitting on the fence, but Dom’s new creation changes that, I defy anyone that could look at this 996 and say they don’t like it... we dare you.

In true wide body Porsche tradition, the wider body on this 996 just looks spectacular, it really is dramatic, and this particular look reminds us of the old Le-man’s GT2R racers, but with a slightly milder softer look, which could be the colour choice for this immense daily road car, and we could not think of a better colour for this build, it shows every detail whilst enhancing that derrière to absolute perfection, white its just so fresh.

So what has Dom done to this 996 and what does the wider look consist of. Well the first thing your eyes are drawn to is the width of this stunner, we particularly like how the side rockers tie in and flow from the front the front fenders in to the blown out rear, there are so many ways to do this, but this looks fresh, the front and rear bumpers are nice and deep and have just the right amount of vents and cut outs, we love the less is more approach on the bumper set up Dom decided on, with a very subtle front splitter, but a very aggressive rear engine cover and rear wing assembly, which for us just works perfectly with that super wide rear end.

The last details to finish off the look is a set of super wide Niche wheels, not to our taste, but wheels are a personal choice, so all is forgiven, most will like them, but we have other ideas for what we would fit a set of super lightweight GT3RR forged race wheels, we can see the FM1R or the GTRS design right at home on this build, there are a huge selection of wheel designs available in either 17"18” or 19” sizes with lots of finish options, so its a case of choosing your design for your own build, but your going to need 13" 14" rear wheels with 335, 345 or 355 tyres to complete the look.

This aero pack will be going into production, so if you fancy overhauling your Porsche 996, as it may be looking a little tiered, or you just fancy this wider look then get in-touch for further details, we can already see this build in various colours and different wheel set up, time to start hunting for our very own Porsche 996.

Kudos Dom you have built an absolutely stunning 996, we have enjoyed following the build journey, and the finished result is spectacular, you certainly get the VAD seal of approval.

We are huge Porsche fanatics at VAD, it’s a very special brand, if we had our way and the funds of course we would have every model across the range, modified to the maximum of course, like them or loathe them you can ignore the fact in racing form they produce some of the best looking cars on the planet, with what we have planned for the future with the 997R and the 991R is really exciting, especially with how well the Speedwells Turbo-R turned out in true road going form.

Porsche 996 GT2R Evo

When Porsche launched the 996, they had a very mixed reaction, they obviously listened as when they launched the 997 it resembled the more successful 964 / 993 chassis than it did the 996, so for those customers that would like the more affordable 996 model but, but are but are put off over the way it looks, we have a makeover solution.

The main area of concern is the lights, so people go to the lengths of fitting the 997 front end, but our makeover incorporates the 997 front lights with a full wide body aero package, the GT2R EVO, and it’s a beauty,

The basics of the aero kit is a wider version of the RSR aero kit, it will fit all of the 996 chassis, Turbo or none turbo, standard or wide body, the only difference will be the rear flare, as the Turbo and GT2 models have the Turbo side vents there are two sets of flares available for turbo or none turbo models, the rest of the kit will be the same.

Kit consists of the following parts:

Front bumper, front splitter, front fenders, fender top vents, side skirts, rear flares, rear bumper.

Optional extras include:

Rear diffuser, rear ducktail engine cover, rear wing assembly, 2 Piece or 3 piece forged wheels, in sizes 11x18 front, 13x18 rear, 19” are also available on request in various designs and material, with a hybrid carbon and magnesium wheel being added to our Motorsport range of wheels, as well as super light weight 2 piece Magnesium wheels, for road or race applications.

Over the last couple of years our love for the porsche brand has made us search for more mouth watering products, and looking at our selection its starting to bloom, we are constantly updating our product lines, and new to the range is our selection of aero parts for the Porsche 993 namely the GT2 Evo, and GT2R parts, which can supply in carbon fibre or glass fibre, so most budgets can be catered for.

and it really doesn't get any better, as this build from this Rennlist member, just makes us want to build one.

Next up on the list for the Porsche 911, is for the 996 model, this aero upgrade is basically the RSR conversion for the GT2 or Turbo model, as they are the models that have the side air vents that feed cool air in to the intercoolers that sit either side of the rear bumper, this aero upgrade is classed as the GT2R and it makes the 996 look super sexy, especially with the 997 front headlight upgrade, which lets face it, the 996 front lights are like marmite, its a like or loathe affair, personally we like them, but we are an avid porsche fan, so we love them all, this particular conversion needs 11 or 12" front wheels, with a 13 or 13.5" rear wheel in size 18" or 19" with 3 piece construction the better option for this particular conversion, unless you do what this Rennlist member has done, and fit the Monoblock front wheel, with a 3 piece rear wheel in the same design, that set up can work really well, but a lot depends on the design and finish.

Porsche 996 GT2R

Last on the list, but one that has been covered on our blog posts, and we have listed online for a while is our overall favourite, the stunning GT3R conversion for the 997, this really is the ultimate 997 conversion, it just ticks all of the boxes, and its just a beauty, and its one we have on our own radar to build, when the BMW Z4 is finish ... unfortunately we have to prioritise.

As with all of our conversions, we can supply or supply and fit, with a huge selection of wheels, tyres, suspension, exhausts, to suit all applications and budgets, our forged wheel line up consists of 1 piece Monoblock, 2 piece Duoblock & 3 piece conventional or concave profiles.
