Speedwell Porsche 997 GT3R Bi Turbo, ready to break cover

This has been one amazing build, its been a pleasure to be involved watching the transformation over the last 6 months, seeing the the vision come to fruition, not only of a road going 997 "R" but a true road looking version of the famous "r" look, it had to be a road 997 with zero hint of track car, this is the first "R" of its kind. Our previous customers builds, Sleepers Speed Shop, Speed Concepts both building road going Turbo R's, both have the look of a race car for the road, with the huge rear wing assembly and race grills, and the lack of front indicators, DRL's, flat body under floor, race wheels, likewise with our customer Scribante Racing, who built an all out track beast, which was built to compete in various GT racing around South Africa, Iby at Speedwells wanted the opposite look, he wanted a wide body Porsche 997 Turbo with the GT3R DNA, and we must say its mission accomplished.

We built a similar car back in 2013, with our Turbo RSR Gen 2 and looking back we made so many mistakes, over sized wheels, incorrect stance, wrong colour choice, and generally the wrong modifications of trying to get a race kit fitted on to a road going 997 Turbo, that inexperience showed in the build, especially when you look back and compare, this build is just another level, the comparison is chalk and cheese to our own build, Iby has made modifications to the kit, but they have all been thought about methodically, and that shows, the attention to detail is just immense, with the fit and finish as we have come to expect from a speedwell built car.

VAD News, Builds and Collaborations

It’s been a busy couple of months at VAD, we are working with some great people and great companies, and the good news is it doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon, we have so much in the pipeline, it really is turning into an exciting year, we are pleased we took the decision to make collaborating a focus point for 2018, as it has attracted some real quality people & outlets to our brand. The first collaboration to break cover this year was our good friends Reflex Auto Design Daventry who purchased our Old & New slate nose wide body aero kit for their Porsche 997 Carrera C2, and we must say they did an amazing job, we knew the livery was happening as we were privy to the original concept, draw up by the hugely talented Khyzyl Saleem, AKA the KYZA and the concept to reality has gone down a storm, if you need to see the RAD boys credentials for their paint gun skills, they get up close and personal to this stunning new edition, its mind blowing.

After a Week of getting our breath back, we heard from Bryce who was meeting Brandon from Woyshnis Media was heading to Colorado to capture his wide body GTR that had just been completed, and to say he produced the goods is a bit of an understatement, we will be doing a blog post of Bryce’s completed Ichiban build during the week with Brandon dropping the video in the coming weeks… this is one epic build that Brandon has pictured up to perfection.

Another exciting collaboration that happening and about to break cover is our good friend Iby from Speedwells Refinishing, and his awe inspiring, game changing Porsche 997 BI-Turbo, that he has fitted with our carbon fibre wide body R aero kit, we have be involved with this build from scratch, as we are local and he’s a close friend, Iby is a master class, nothing fazes him and he has methodically put this car together, thinking about every detail, as real master class, if you think his Toyota Supra builds were good, wait till you see this creation, its mind numbingly good, he is a perfectionist and I'm extremely proud of him with what he has created, this really is the pinnacle when it comes to Porsche 997 builds, as you will all discover when this car breaks cover, all being well, at the end of this month.

Another build that is happening is with the talented APAC Auto crew over in Maryland USA, Derrick Nowell the owner is putting the VAD GT1 wide body aero on to his own personal Nissan GTR, which we have discussed in an earlier post, you can follow this particular build on the APAC Facebook as well as this blog as the build progresses, with what Derrick has shared with us so fare we can see why they have such and unbelievable reputation for building cars, their skill set is second to none.

So what else in in the pipeline, we have a nice little build starting with the MSL Parts shop, the guys are good friends with Iby, and he got us involved with their 964 wide body build, which could be wearing our 3.8 RSR aero and old school super wide 18” Race style Centerlock forge wheels. We also have a couple of GTR Ichiban Builds happening in California, David Haagsma is giving his SP Engineering built time attack GTR a little make over, so this is one build we are very much looking forward to following.

With all this going on we still have our own project to finish, but as with all builds like ours, it takes time and money, we have had a few issues down on the way and we have decided to move the car to Reflex Auto Design so they can get stuck in to finishing and painting.

Aspect GT new wheel designs

With the turn of every year we always try and update our custom forged wheel range with at least one new design and to be honest this year we were not going to look at until the middle part of the year, but with the wheels for our BMW Z4 GT3 V8 being built incorrectly especially the fronts it was time for a rethink, as AG wheels like most of the wheels companies stateside don’t stand by their mistakes, so we are left to pick up the rather large cost of replacing a set of wheels we had yet to use, we could just replace the centres, but we would rather start with a fresh clean build with another manufacturer, one that we can trust and work with long term, enter Aspect GT, a relatively new name but with a long pedigree.

We have looked at the mesh designs and that design along with a multi-spoke will be the usual easy choice for our build, but we want to step outside the box a little, it’s a motorsport looking car, so we want a motorsport looking design, and there is nothing that looks like what we want, so we got our heads together with our wheel partners and manufacturers that are helping us on this build and we have come up with two motorsport themed wheels, the problem is well like them both.

The first design is a take on a true motorsport classic, a little touch of the old OZ Motorsport wheel styling but with extra smaller windows, like the old school Speedline or compomotive take on the design, but this is a 3 piece wheel and will have a concave profile, with whats called super registry.

the smaller windows down by the bowl can also be left out of the design for that true motorsport look and plenty of room for the graphics or CNC machined text around the bowl area of the wheel, the second take on the design is the same design but with raised spoke in-between the windows, and this is the design that we really do like the look of, this design with an aggressive offset will set the Z4 GT3 off to perfection
