So finally it’s time to get back on to our BMW Z4 GT3 V8 project after being neglected for the last 18 months, due to various issues, time, finances and generally getting involved with the wrong companies to complete the work on the build, which all have stated could be done easily and have taken the job on to complete, I don’t want to turn this post sour as that’s not what im about personally, we live and we learn and unfortunately I still take people at face value, VAD is a pretty old school company with good old fashion values with good buisness eithics, but im a realist and know that people are not all the same, the fact the car has been in two company’s hands and both have been a complete disgrace as far as im concerned, but i would rather say no more on the subject and yet again put it down to experience and move on which is exactly what I have done.

VAD BMW Z4 GT3 LS3 V8 Under Construction

So the car is now residing at our European Partners, Next Level Automotive and what a difference already, to say they were excited is a real understaement and that then excits me, to see two guys with so much passion telling me its going to be an awesome build is just what i want to hear, and from the feedback so far the work is pretty straight forward, just as it should be when your a professional within your trade, within half a day of the car being there, they have a plan already in place for the build, i guess when you know what your doing its fairly straight forward, so many people in the industry living off media bullshit, I will never really understand why anyone would take on a job that they simply couldn’t do, or its out of their depth.

The first job has been to mock up the kit, the front end is already fitted but doed need a bit of work to make the fitment perfect, there is quite a lot to repair, as we have some damaged carbon parts, what cant be fixed will be remade, then its into paint, and this is another place where Jan can show his skill set.

when the car is returned we can turn our attention to the new GT3RR F1 forged wheel centres, we are so excited to get the new centres fitted, then we will have to fit the custom made Bilstein Coilover suspension we are having done for this particular conversion and then fit the authentic GT3 twin blade rear wing assembly along with meshing all of the grills in the front and rear bumpers, for the rear bumper we have managed to source a twin grill set from our friend Frank Capo from Modena Engineering Victoria, Melbourne Australia, luckily we have contacts from all over the world that are always ready to help and assist, a good healthy global network is worth its weight in gold as you get to work and collaborate with some wonderful company’s.

Summer cannot come any sooner for me as I finally get to have the VAD Z4 GT3 V8 Demo out on the road, hitting as many shows as I can possibly get to, 2019 just got a whole lot better, thanks to the Next Level Automotive crew.

When Iby from Speedwells decided to sell his beloved Supras and finally secure the dream of owning a Porsche 997, most people that know him were pretty shocked, mainly because he is known as one of the Europes Supra kings, you only had to see his red turbo example to see why, immense is an understatement, so as we know the beloved Supras were sold and the Porsche 997 was purchased, but not a normal 997, nope this is Iby were talking about so it wouldnt be a basic chassis it had to be the turbo example, nothing else would cut the mustard. He looked long and hard for a red example, which is extremely rare in turbo disguise, but a clean black example was located as talked about in previous posts, and we have known for a long time its not a colour that Iby liked, so we always knew a change was on the cards, we are just amazed it took over a year to make those changes, but November 2018 it was taken off the road for a major power upgrades and a colour makeover.

Porsche 997 GT3R > Turbo-R

We will be discussing the power upgrades, in another post as we have quite a lot to talk about as there has been a few headaches in the upgardes and build, but as they say its all come out in the wash, and the car has surpassed the stock 500 hp and has been drastically increased, to stunning effect, more on this topic at a later date. Now onto the comstetics of this overhaul, with so many colours being discussed over the last few months, white, blue, grey to name a few, even a burnt orange was a serious consideration, but it always came full circle to gloss red, which is what Iby wanted from day one for his 997R conversions and we must say what an inspired or should I say spectacular choice, as I personally always showed lots of selfish negativity when a colour change was discussed as I do love the black on black look with this 997 GT3R conversion, but I also don't mind admitting when I am wrong and on this occasion I was, the red shows just how wide the GT3R conversion is, all of the 7 feet width actually looks wider, its shows all of the wonderfull R body details too, the front fender vents now pop, the grills front and rear, the rear bumper side grills all stand out and boy of boy the width of this beauty is just incredible.

MSL Customs working their magic on the Speedwells Porsche 997 Turbo-R

For a few months paint was discussed, but Iby decided against that option because he wanted the base car to remain a factory colour, so after a chat with Shabs at MSL, the job in hand was given to the MSL custom crew, these boys are local business based in Birmingham 5 mins from speedwells, which is great for a collaboration of this magnitude and we must say they have done an incredible job, the workmanship is of the higest quality with beautiful details all around the car. The front splitter and canards have been finished off with PPF so that now matches the rear enagine cover and spoiler, the wheels have been repainted in a matte and gloss black combination with gold hardware, with the front lights, rear light lenes and DRL's all coming in for a touch on tinting, the rear side intake vents are being replaced with carbon GT2 style intakes with the slate grey stripes from front to rear finishing off the attention to the details, with the car about to be finished this week we can't wait to get behind the lens and get some shots of this beauty. Get in touch with us for more details on our full carbon fibre GT3R aero conversion for your 997 chassis, we can supply, or arrange supply and fit, as well as suuplying various other parts, bespoke Bilstein coilover suspension for the GT3R conversion, as well as megnesium or aluminium forged 3 piece wheels, adjustable control arms, various designs of engine covers and rear wing set ups, exhausts and the super wide Michelin tyres.

For every set of R56 mini flares we sell we are asked about the wheels and what wheels can be used. The problem when you add extra width to your build you need a wider wheel and tyre set up, even our R56 flares add a couple of inches that need to be filled with a wheel. The wheel width needed for our particular flare is a 9" wheel with a bespoke offset front and rear in either a 16" or 17" sizes and that's where the problem lies, you have to look at a 2 or a 3 piece wheel set up for those types of widths and the required offsets, or use a narrower wheel with a large hub-centric spacer set up, and neither are ideal, the multipiece wheel route is expensive, and a slimmer wheel and spacer is the cheaper option but defeats the purpose

Trying to find a 1 piece wheel with the correct width and offset that will work with the conversion has been a bit of a headache, even for us has been an impossibility to find, we have come close but unfortunately no cigar, that is until now, and we are extremely pleased to be able to offer a 1 piece super light weight wheel, that you can not only use on the road, but also use on the track, available in the correct size, width and offsets for our wide flare conversion, so no need for a spacer or the expensive 2 or 3 piece option, at the moment its only available in the 17" size with either an 8.5x17 or 9x17 widths, that can be fitted with either 234/40R17, 245/40R17 or 255/40R17, all great combinations and can be used with the selected widths we have listed, we can also supply tyres at super competitive prices.

Motec light weight Nitro MCR1 15" 16" 17" 18" 19" sizes available

The Motec MCR1 wheel is a lightweight wheel, available in the correct 4x100 pcd, with direct centre bore and correct offsets we need for the flare front and rear, so for all of our customers that are looking to build a wide fendered R56 mini, you now have the perfect wheel solution that not only good to look at, but is light weight, it has the correct specification and the best part is its competitively priced, with the added bonus of amazing European quality, which is what we strive for. Get in touch with us for further details on our R56 mini upgrades and builds.
