We have had lots of requests over the last few months regarding our 22” wheel upgrades for the first generation Audi Q7, especially the ABT AS7 version, all of the sizes and specifications we have listed on our website, but the requests we are having of late underlines that we needed to put the info out there more.

We generally have a huge disliking for wheel spacers, but we do understand why some people use them you only have to look at some of the high quality German tuners have used them over the years and still do on certain wide body conversions they produce, that they want to sell the complete package that they have built and invested into, which makes perfect sense, they produce a wheel that will fit the stock o.e.m vehicle and then add 35 to 50 mm of spacer when they sell the wheels with their wide body conversion, its not something we would do or offer personally but we understand the reasoning behind it, but this is also why we admire companies like Hamann Motorsport and Prior Design, the companies that build the same design wheel for a stock or wide body conversion without the use of a spacer, if its a standard body they offer a standard width wheel for the application, if its the wider version they build a wider and the correct wheel width for the conversion, which is how it should be done.

10.5x22 > 295/30R22 Front & 13x22 > 335/25R22 Rear VAD VF1

The first generation Q7 has been a firm favourite at VAD and we have converted a fair few over the years as well as supplying a selection of our wheels to customers who already had the ABT Q7 fitted but were disappointed with the tuner wheel and tyre set up.

The ABT conversion for the Q7 is deceptively wide, the AS7 can be fitted with quite a substantial wheel and width, we build 10.5x22 front wheels and 13x22 rear wheels fitted with 295/30R22 & 335/25R22 tyres front and rear respectively, as well as fitting adjustable lowering links, it seems to be a conversion we are quite renown for, get in touch in you want the ultimate look for your Audi.

Back in February we blogged about a very special build project that was taking place in Sweden, Joakim Edin had just started constructing his very own wide body fenders for his BMW M6 V10, as he had just taken delivery of his VAD forged VF1 Wheels.

Well we are pleased to report that things a progressing extremely well, to the point where he has fitted his tyres and managed to stretch a 355/25R21 Pirelli onto that huge 15x21 rear wheel and is now honing the fitment, and we must say, the way the new extended fenders sit on the VAD VF1 12x21 and 15x21 3 piece forged wheels is absolute fitment perfection and a credit to his craft, the VF1 has never looked so good, it’s a simplistic 5 spokes that just looks so good on every vehicle its been fitted too.

There is a lot more work to be done, but this is the beauty of customers that share their builds, we can showcase the progress as its happens, we will tune back in to Joakim build as its takes shape.

If you have any VAD wheels and wish to share your build pictures, send us some details and we will be more than happy to share with the rest of the motoring communities around the world.

Over the last 18 years or more we have been involved with some pretty spectacular wheel projects all over the world, we have had some great builds globally, the Australian market we have produced some great one off custom wheel builds, especially for the mighty HSV Holden VE model, building wheel widths most say aren’t possible, we love a challenge and it seems so does Joakim Edin from Sweden.

Joakim is building a very unique BMW E63 M6 V10 coupe, when we first spoke to him, he explained how he had scoured the market looking for a decent wide body off the shelf, but he was left extremely disappointed with what the market had to offer for his V10 powerhouse, so decided the only way he was going to get what he wanted, was to make his own, which he is in the process of doing, we just love customers like Joakim, not just his attitude of , “it’s not available, so I will make my own”, but the fact he has the capability to design and produce the body work to the exact look he has in his head, the guy has skills.

He has already built some formidable machines; one in particular has already been featured on the Speedhunters website, his amazing Jaguar XJR, a very unique build running a 20” wheel set up, with Accuair suspension.

As well as knowing what he wants in the way of body styling, the wheels have also been meticulously chosen to make sure the design is as he envisaged the overall look, and the VAD VF1 was his desired wheel of choice, a plain and simple but very effective looking five spoke design with the deepest concave we could get out of the 12x21 front wheels and the awesome 15x21 rear set up, hes basically got the rear wheel concavity for the front and the rear, and they look pretty awesome, with a brushed centre, exposed hardware and reverse outer rim, this is going to be one very special M6, and one we are proud to be involved with… roll on launch day, Hurry up Joakim
