Throughout 2016 we blogged constantly about the Porsche 997 Turbo GT3R that was being built by our South African tuning partner Scribante racing, and at long last we are able to show case to the world the car in all its glory, and boy oh boy they have put together an absolute beauty.

from any viewing point its incredible, they have sourced and used the very best product they could get their competitive hands on, this is one serious racing car, the construction is amazing, with their own neat bespoke touches, like the incredible front hood with a real trick venting system, the front and rear bumper mods and we love the rear fender cooling ducts made from carbon, that sit on top of the really wide rear fenders, that will feed as much air they need in to the huge intercoolers, sitting either side of the carbon vented bumper, Marco from Phoenix Performance has done exceeding well with all the nice little performance upgrades.

The car is set to compete this year and so far the car has been pretty ferocious in testing, with a reliable race ready 650bhp, its one we can’t wait to follow through the year, we wish Franco and his team all the best, and will report on racing as the R takes to the track, now its time to get a UK R on the streets, and for that we will be collaborating with our good friend Iby and Speedwells, watch this space.

Huge congratulations to our good friend Todd and his team from Speed Concepts who took second place overall in this year’s one lap of America, in there awesome Porsche 997 GT3R TT.

We have been following Todd and his updates and been in regular contact over the year to find out how the upgrades were progressing from last year to this, and it seems with what they have installed in the way of updates did them proud, with a little bit of help along the way from the likes of BBI, Cobb Tuning, it’s been a real pleasure to follow the updates and track the build progress over the last few months.

Full spec of this beauty is as follows:

The car started life as a Porsche Turbo S, and now wears a full carbon fibre GT3R aero kit, including all the nice little extras like the flat underbody floor from front to rear.

The engine is running stock internals and putting down 600+ wheel HP on a 93 octane tune. This Turbo is running 30/82 turbos, meth injection, air-to-water intercoolers, Speed Concept headers, Dodson clutches and IPD Plenum and custom IPD/SC Y-Pipe. The power is put to the ground through 13” Forgeline wheels with 345/30R19 tyres at the business end, with 12” wheels wearing 325/30R19 up the front. The suspension features ERP and BBI components, 997 RSR uprights, Tarret front sway bar and SC rear sway bar, as you can see its full loaded and no stone has been left unturned in its search for reliable performance, whilst being completely road legal.

Our 997 carbon aero programme has really taken off over the last few months, after perfecting the fitment for road application, We are eagerly waiting for our South African Tuning partners to release their 700+ bhp GT3R track beast to the world, as well as a road build happening at Sleepers Speed Shop in California on a Porsche Turbo model, plus we will be assisting our good friends at Speedwells build their very own R 997 Porsche for the UK market over the next few months, watch this space as we launch these builds to the global market.

This build has excited us from day one, and why wouldn't it, 700hp + Porsche 997 twin turbo fitted with the widebody GT3R carbon aero pack, its a fine build and one we cant wait to see finished and hitting the track driven in anger, Cobus the man behind the build has been an extremely busy putting this impressive build together over the last few months, and to say we are impressed is a bit of an under statement.

The build is not far off being completed, they are just waiting on a few parts to finalise the build, and we are happy to report the car has finally had a coat of paint, and we love the chosen colour, although the scheme will only be revealed when they launch the car at its first test, its all of the little details that have been put into the car we love, like the one off bespoke built aluminium hood that has been crafted all in-house, and the rear cooling set up for the Turbos, that have been wrapped in Phoenix Performance Thermal Insulation blankets, Marco adding his little Midas touches to this build, not only keeping the Turbos cool, but a great heat protector, as they say the devil is in the detail, Cobus and his team have some serious skill set.
