We are disappointed to say that we will not at the SEMA 2017 show this year, we were supposed to be there this year but we have just been too busy to even consider flying off on a business, pleasure trip, it’s been a case of head down arse up for most of the year, and with the plans we have in place for 2018 we have a lot to look forward too, so as they say there is always next year.

Although we are not there on a personal level, some of our product will be, unfortunately we missed the boat with Bryce and his mind blowing GTR, as that is still in early build stages, but we luckily we had another project that we had going on throughout 2017.

Porsche 997 Turbo-R

Porsche 997R loaded up and ready for SEMA 2017

It was the back end of 2016 when we were approached by the Sleepers Speed Shop crew through our good friend Manu Gill from Aristo forged wheels, their client wanted our recently launched GT3R aero upgrade for his Porsche 997 Turbo, and as the order was for most of the parts we do for the R conversion, including the complete flat bottom floor this customer wasn't messing around, and it wasn't until we did some investigation homework we found out the customer already had a pretty radical 997 in the form of the Liberty Walk 997 wide body.

There are a couple of the LB conversions that we do like, the mini is pretty funky and the McLaren is a great looking car, but the 997 for us like the GTR is just wrong, sorry but they are both a bit of a mess, but I guess its each to their own, were not keen on the over fender look and it just doesn't work on every car, so the task for the Sleepers crew was to remove the LB Works kit and install our GT3R, and boy oh boy they didn't disappoint, to say they pulled it off is an understatement, the car looks incredible, we could be any happier with this finished beauty.

There are plenty of people that have signed up for our blog post stateside, so if you’re heading to the SEMA show and you want to get up close and personal with this amazing 997R, head over to the Toyo Tires Treadpass area and you will see it in all its glory.

We would like to thank Len Higa and his Sleepers team for working with us and producing the goods, we look forward to working with these guys again in the near future, they are a class act, and very much a part of the VAD family.

Throughout 2016 we blogged constantly about the Porsche 997 Turbo GT3R that was being built by our South African tuning partner Scribante racing, and at long last we are able to show case to the world the car in all its glory, and boy oh boy they have put together an absolute beauty.

from any viewing point its incredible, they have sourced and used the very best product they could get their competitive hands on, this is one serious racing car, the construction is amazing, with their own neat bespoke touches, like the incredible front hood with a real trick venting system, the front and rear bumper mods and we love the rear fender cooling ducts made from carbon, that sit on top of the really wide rear fenders, that will feed as much air they need in to the huge intercoolers, sitting either side of the carbon vented bumper, Marco from Phoenix Performance has done exceeding well with all the nice little performance upgrades.

The car is set to compete this year and so far the car has been pretty ferocious in testing, with a reliable race ready 650bhp, its one we can’t wait to follow through the year, we wish Franco and his team all the best, and will report on racing as the R takes to the track, now its time to get a UK R on the streets, and for that we will be collaborating with our good friend Iby and Speedwells, watch this space.

Porsche 997 GT3R build by Scribante Racing

In our line of business with the products we offer, we get to not only ship our parts all around the world, we also get to work with some great people on their fantastic builds, and just recently our customer Yann Boivin who resides in Dubai completed his stunning RSR Inspired 997 Turbo.

VAD VM1 10x20>265/30R20 Front, 13x20>345/25R20 Rear

Yann made contact with us mid part of 2016 about building a wide body Porsche 997, based on his Turbo with his inspiration coming not just from the race series Porsche GT3 RSR, but the VAD RSR Turbo 650R build we did in 2013, although It a personal build we like to forget about, because it wasn’t built to a standard we have always strived for, the paint work wasn’t the best, we used a very cheap, poor quality FRP RSR kit, the fit was appalling, and the wheel build was to extreme, with our initial idea was to build a race looking Porsche 997 RSR, we build a stance cambered RSR, modifying the front bumper that gave the car a silly looking smile, if we had our time over again building an RSR turbo, it would be done totally different, as we will showcase when we start to construct our new Porsche 997 build, the GT3R bi-turbo, but we will cover that in another post when our build starts.

Yann had a few niggles along the way, mainly with the body shop he chose, but with a new recommendation and his vison and determination still in full flow, his dream build has now hit the street, and its one very special looking 997 Turbo.

His wheel choice from day one was to fit our VAD VF1 3 piece forged concave wheels as seen on our original demo, but they wouldn’t be as extreme, and they would be a completely tyre set up and colour combo, with Matte brushed bronze, with brushed silver hardware, 10x20 > 265/30R20 front and 13x20 > 345/25R20 rear sitting on custom coilover suspension, the finish and colour of the wheel suit the beautiful Metallic Khaki green to absolute perfection.

We have a full range of professional photos heading our way over the next few weeks, so check back in for details as they will be uploaded to our blog and VAD fitted vehicle gallery.
