It’s been a while since we last published a blog, but we feel this is something that needs to be brought to a much wider audience. Protecting the integrity of our industry has always been important to us, and when concerns arise that could affect other businesses, customers and enthusiasts, we believe they deserve to be heard.
For transparency, we want to share our own experiences with ACR Performance, explain why we became involved in a recent customer dispute, and highlight the further concerns that have since been brought to our attention.
Our History with ACR Performance
As many within the Aston Martin tuning scene will know, VAD Design has been a long-standing advocate of ACR Performance, a Japanese company producing aftermarket tuning and aerodynamic components for the Aston Martin Vantage.
We first met the company's owner, Hiro Akane, at the Tokyo Auto Salon in 2017. Following that meeting, we featured ACR Performance products on our website and promoted both the brand and its aerodynamic programme. We did so in good faith, having supported the company and its products within the industry for a number of years.
Unfortunately, our experience with ACR Performance took a very different turn in 2023.
Our First Experience of Serious Problems
In 2023, we became involved in a project with Chris from B Is for Build, who ordered an ACR Performance body kit for a potential SEMA build.
What followed was an extremely difficult experience. Over a period of several months, the project was affected by repeated delays, communication problems and commitments that, from our perspective, were not fulfilled as promised. Much of this was outside our control, yet we found ourselves caught up in the resulting difficulties.
Chris eventually received the kit, but it arrived damaged in transit. For various reasons, the components were never fitted to his Aston Martin Vantage as originally intended.
The kit was subsequently sold to the Throtl team, who went on to produce the rather stunning orange Aston Martin Vantage build that many enthusiasts will recognise. However, our experience had left us deeply disappointed. Following the difficulties surrounding that project, we made the decision not to work with ACR Performance again, at the time, we had no intention of revisiting the matter publicly. We simply moved on with our own products and our own manufacturing.
A Further Complaint Comes to Our Attention
On 15 April 2026, we received a direct message from Javi, known as @src-javi, who had noticed that ACR Performance was still featured on our website, Javi contacted us because he had been struggling to get a response from Hiro and hoped we might be able to help establish contact.
After speaking with Javi, we learned that he had paid ACR Performance for Aston Martin Vantage body kits in November 2025. According to the information he provided, delivery had been promised within eight weeks of placing his order, but by April 2026, he was still waiting for his parts and had been unable to resolve the situation through his attempts to contact the company.
We decided to help where we could, hoping that our previous connection with ACR Performance might assist in getting matters resolved, but sadly, as of 22 October 2026, Javi has still not received the kit he has paid for.
During this period, we understand that he was given a number of assurances that delivery would take place. In August, Hiro reportedly told Javi that the shipment had mistakenly been sent to the United States and had subsequently been stolen. According to Javi, a full refund was then promised. As of the date of publication, Javi tells us that the promised refund has not been received.
We cannot independently verify every detail of the shipment or the circumstances surrounding it. However, the prolonged delay and the reported failure to resolve the matter have raised serious concerns that we believe warrant attention.
Further Concerns Emerge
We initially shared a warning on our Instagram account in the hope of reaching others who might be affected by similar circumstances.
The response was significant. Following that post, additional individuals contacted us to share their own concerns and experiences involving ACR Performance, Among those who have come forward is Khang Dao of Nurlock Carbon, who has reported a financial loss of $22,000 USD in connection with his dealings with the company.
These are serious allegations, and we believe anyone considering doing business with ACR Performance should have the opportunity to make an informed decision. Each account needs to be assessed on its own facts, and we encourage anyone involved to retain their documentation and pursue the appropriate channels to seek a resolution. What concerns us most is the possibility that other customers may be facing similar difficulties without knowing that others have raised concerns.
Why We Believe This Needs to Be Discussed
The automotive aftermarket is a relatively small world. Reputation, trust and relationships are fundamental to how our industry operates, particularly when customers are purchasing specialist components from overseas manufacturers. A company can have an established presence, an impressive portfolio of builds, a recognisable social media profile and associations with well-known names, yet those things alone cannot guarantee a positive customer experience, our industry relies on customers being able to place orders with confidence, knowing that agreed products will be supplied, commitments will be honoured and problems will be addressed professionally when things go wrong.
When substantial payments are made for specialist components, customers are entitled to expect clear communication, realistic delivery schedules and a satisfactory resolution if an order cannot be fulfilled.
It is equally important that businesses and individuals are willing to speak openly about their experiences when serious concerns arise. Silence can leave others unaware of potential risks.
We supported and promoted ACR Performance for years. That history makes the situation particularly disappointing for us. Our previous association with the brand was built on our belief in its products and its place within the Aston Martin aftermarket scene.
We are not publishing this article lightly, nor is our intention to create unnecessary controversy. We are sharing our experience and the concerns that have been brought to our attention because we believe transparency matters.
Our Message to the Industry
If you are considering purchasing specialist automotive components from any overseas supplier, do your due diligence. Research the company independently, ask for recent customer references, establish clear written delivery terms and make sure you understand what protection is available should an order not be fulfilled.
Keep copies of invoices, payment confirmations, correspondence and any delivery or refund commitments. If problems arise, document them carefully and seek appropriate professional advice where necessary.
We would also encourage anyone who believes they have experienced a similar issue with ACR Performance to seek a resolution through the appropriate channels and ensure that any claims they make are supported by their own records.
As for VAD Design, we have no intention of recommending or promoting a supplier where serious, unresolved concerns remain, We hope that by sharing this information, we can help others ask the right questions before committing their money and potentially facing similar difficulties.
We will continue to follow developments and, should further verified information become available, we will consider providing an update.
The automotive industry is built on passion, craftsmanship and trust. Protecting those values is something we all have a responsibility to take seriously.

ACR Performance
VAD Design
