If you’re from the west midlands and into the car scene, then you would of heard the name speedwells, one because he drives a very famous Red 800+ bhp widebody supra, and two because they are one of, if not the finest wheel refinishers this country has to offer, how do we know this, well we have been in the wheel industry for over 20 years, and we have used most companies that are supposed to specialise in the refinishing business, but have never been 100% happy with the finished product and neither have our customers, and as there seems to be a refinisher opening up weekly, we thought it was time to educate and help people with a great option on where to take your alloys for that high quality finish.

We have already covered the supra on many occasions in our blog, if you want a recap hit the link and read up on the finest home grown Supra this country has ever produced.

Wheel refinishers, there are many around the country, as a wheel wholesaler / retailer we have possibly used them all, and what we can say is none of them come close to what Speedwells can do with a wheel, the added bonus is he can refinish or refurbish any wheel, own a 3 piece wheel and struggling to get it refinished properly like we have done so many times in the past, well not only does he specialises in the 1 piece wheel, but the 2 and 3 piece wheel too, no matter what the wheel, he will return to o.e. m quality standards, if not better.

There aren’t many people within the wheel refinishing industry that want to get involved with a 3 piece wheel, as its time consuming and not as easy as stripping a 1 piece, you have to be pretty meticulous and know what you are doing, and this is where Speedwells are a cut above the rest, he has 3 piece wheels on every car he owns, so he understands how they are put together, and what you have to do to repair or refinish, he is the only company we would let anywhere near our refinishing , and he is the exclusive VAD refinisher for all of our used wheels, we couldn’t recommend his workmanship and quality standards enough.

So if you have a 1, 2 or 3 piece wheels, that need bringing back to life, and you want a high quality job, then look no further, tell them VAD sent you, we can assure you of one thing, you will be happy you did.

Our trip to Tokyo Auto Salon 2017 has been a huge success, and we are happy to have found some new friends to work with along with some fantastic products.

The first product that we would like to showcase is the aero kit for the 997 from the company Old & New based in Hiroshima Japan, if you don’t know about their stunning slant nose conversion for the Porsche 997, then you have been living under a rock, the car was launched over at the SEMA show at the end of 2016 and went down an absolute storm, and seeing it up close and personal for the very first time, we can see why.

The car was on display at the spectra chrome booth, and when we eventually got to see the car, we analysed every inch in detail and we can confirm ...it’s a beauty, I will admit that there are a few things we would like to add, and a bit we would like to modify, but when someone has made a design and wants to work with you, you can’t really start making changes, so the car we will build this year will be the official aero kit, with no changes or additions, apart from our own wheel choice, as that’s one area we feel needs a Old-New design, so we are now working on our own wheel design to run specifically with this conversion.

The owner Shuichi Nakagawa is a passionate and infectious person to be around, when he heard us introduce ourselves, he pulled out his phone and showed us our own Porsche 997 GT3R aero, certainly a man with his finger on the pulse, he said he loved what we do, so a collaboration from the moment we met was inevitable.

The aero kit comprises of the following parts, and they leave nothing out for this 935 inspired slate nose conversion.

Every time January comes round we have a decision to make, do we head to the Autosport show at Birmingham, or the Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan, this year the TAS2017 show won the toss up and are we glad we made that choice, to say the show was brilliant is an understatement, for us it’s the show of the year, and one we just don’t like to miss, sorry Autosport, but Japan does it bigger and better.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2017 (TAS)

For this trip we teamed up with our good friend Iby at Speedwells, and it was his first Japanese visit, so it was up to us to show him around and take care of him, and as he hasn’t stopped talking about it since, I think we can safely say he enjoyed his trip immensely, he is a big Japanese sport car fan and his current line up is a 700+ wide body supra, with an all new black wide body in build process, as well as the awesome 280ZX V8 Turbo he is also currently building, so this trip was to add a little inspiration to his up and coming projects, as well as getting to see a little bit of Tokyo.

Our hotel was a stone throw from the Messe hall where the TAS show is held year in year out, it seemed so much bigger this year than it has the previous years, and the cars on show, as always in Japan was mind blowing, although the continuing trend of over fendered cars was in full force, and to be honest if you have seen one you have seen one you have seen them all, the cut and paste kit are in full flow and sorry apart from the odd over fender conversion like the BN Sports RX7 or the awesome Old & New Porsche 997, the rest had little or no interest, although we did capture a few pictures for all to view.

The show was set over 3 huge halls, plus the outside entertainment, and it took us a full two days to get around it all, but as its set out so well, one halls just flows into the other apart from halls 9,10 & 11 that are set away from the main halls, but worth the visit just to see the Top Secret R32 and the BN Sport wide body RX7, they both made us drool.

Our personal favourites from the show have to be the wide body Aston Martin Vantage from ACR Performance and the Porsche 997 flat nose from Old&New Japan, we will be bringing both conversions to European shores, and we will cover both in up and coming blog posts.

With the show covered on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sunday was a free day, so we decided on heading off to visit Tokyo city, with a trip to Ginza, the highlight of the day was walking around the kaminarimon, which is a great experience, full of the old traditional Japanese buildings, and miles of little market stalls. Until next year Japan, it can’t come round quick enough.
